Dave Matthews tribute band - Trippin Billies

A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine checked out Trippin' Billies, the supposed best Dave Matthews cover band. I am not too knowledgeable on the music of Dave Matthews, but my friend says that the band sounded just like the real one.

Even though it was a cover band, Fine Line tickets for this event were a hot item. Never in a million years could you buy a Dave Matthews band ticket for less than $100 dollars, but the cover band only charged a $15 cover. It's an affordable alternative to the real thing.

Trippin' Billies are from Chicago and gained a strong following from their days at Luther College. They started out just like any other band, working their way from basements to clubs and then clubs all over the midwest. Based on their 'about me' on their Myspace page, the band sells out venues much larger than the Fine Line, so next time they are in town Fine Line tickets may be just as difficult as Dave Matthews band tickets to find!

It sounds like they tour the midwest extensively, so look for them in a town near you!

Fastball at the Fine Line!

Late 90's rockers, Fastball, will be in town for a show at the Fine Line on Friday, November 21st. The Austin, Texas trio will be touring in support of their album, 'Little White Lies,' which will be out in 2009. Their albums have been few and far between since their late 90's hit "All the Pain Money Can Buy."

Unlike the Eagles of Death Metal show in a couple of weeks, Fine Line tickets for this event will still probably be hanging around even on the day of the show. Although the band has toured extensively since their hits 'The Way' and my personal favorite, 'Fire Escape' Fastball has not achieved that level of airplay.

Fine Line tickets for this event are on sale now! I don't know if I will make it to the show, I might be a little Fine Lined out from Mercury Rev and Eagles of Metal!

Nada Surf at Fine Line

Nada Surf is coming to the Fine Line on Friday November 28th – the day after Thanksgiving. So get over your turkey hangover and head out to the Fine Line to party. Nada Surf is out promoting its new album “Lucky” – their restless rock style shines through in this album and the show is going to be a good one. I would venture to even say that some of the songs on the album are love songs or maybe “almost love” songs. I want to get my girlfriends together and head over to see Nada Surf live.

One of my favorite parts about this particular show is that the Fine Line is offering their VIP Gold seating which means if you have some extra cash (I don’t, but wish I did) then you can reserve a table along the rail of the mezzanine (extra $60) or on the rear floor (extra $30) If I had the money, I would prefer a table on the rail of the mezz for this type of show. Plus, since you get dinner and drinks, you will be sitting a lot of the night anyway and on the rail will be a better view than the rear floor. The extra money gets applied to your food/drink bill so you aren’t necessarily out the money, you just have to provide it up front with the ticket purchase. It would be nice to have a reserved seat at the Fine Line since it gets crowded especially the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Mercury Rev at the Fine Line!

It's not often that band with such a distinct sound like Mercury Rev is from the United States, when you hear their music you would assume that their origin would be from the United Kingdom.
Mercury Rev will be here for a show at the Fine Line Music Cafe on Friday, December 12th.

Fine Line tickets for this show may go very fast due to the fact Mercury Rev have not played in Minneapolis in several years. They were supposed open for the Doves show in the winter of 2006, but the concert was canceled due to illness. That was so long ago it was at the Quest Club! It's been ages since I have thought of that place!

The Duke Spirit opens the show!

Fine Line tickets for this event will be much easier to find than the Gear Daddies show at the end of December so get your tickets soon!

Fine Line Music Café – Check it Out!

The Fine Line Music Café is a cool place to hang out. If you haven’t been there before, make the trip, it’s worth it. Their address is 318 First Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55401 – want to map it? Click here.

It’s a trendy cool place to listen to music and just hang out. They have a wide variety of events including FREE events and who couldn’t use a little free right now?! Their website is probably the best place to get information on daily happenings. If you see a big name coming and the Fine Line says it’s sold out, you can always check with local ticket brokers like Ticket King to see if they have any tickets. Ticket King has an office in Minneapolis on the corner of Chicago and Washington over by the Dome (or the DOOM as I like to call it).Sometimes you pay a little more, but at least you get in even at the last minute. Don’t be afraid of the Fine Line, make plans to get out there soon!

Eagles of Death Metal!!!!

Eagles of Death Metal have just announced a show at the Fine Line on Saturday, November 8th. You may recognize Eagles of Death metal music from commercials and from the credits of one of my personal favorite movies, Beerfest!

The band, Josh Homme and Jesse Hughes, are going on tour in supprt of their new album, 'Heart On.' I have seen Eagles of Death Metal several times, the last time I paid over $50 for a Strokes ticket just so I could see Eagles of Death Metal. They are a fun dance rock band that I highly reccommend checking out. Fine Line Music tickets for this show will sell out, each time I have seen EOFDM the show has definitely sold out!

Last Minute Secret Machines Show Announced!!

With only 2 weeks to spare the Secret Machines have announced a last minute show at the Fine Line Music Cafe. It kind of took me by surprise that they announced the show so late, but sometimes the last minute ones are the more fun, seeing as there is less time to wait for the show (hello, Spiritualized!)

Fine Line tickets for this show will go super fast, as the Secret Machines have sold out all their previous shows in Minneapolis.

The Secret Machines
will be at the Fine Line Saturday, July 19th, 2008. Tickets go on sale Saturday, July 5th.

See you at the show!
Maybe if I keep my fingers crossed BRMC will be the opener? Haha, just wishful thinking!!!

Laugh Attack with Joe Rogan at the Fine Line!

The man from Fear Factor, UFC, and Newsradio will be doing his stand up comedy routine one night only. Unlike Chris Rock or Kathy Griffin, Joe Rogan will not be playing at the Orpheum Theater, but he will be playing at the Fine Line Music Cafe. Fine Line tickets for this show will sell out fast, seeing as Joe Rogan has such a dedicated fan base. I wasn't even a fan of his work until I saw his stand up. It's a lot better than his work on Fear Factor.

Joe Rogan Friday, August 8th at the Fine Line - Doors at 8pm, Show starts at 9pm
Tickets go on sale Saturday!

Past Shows at the Fine Line

I have seen some of my favorite bands at the Fine Line, I only wish that some of them would come back!
The first time that I went to the Fine Line, there was not a Fine Line ticket to be had. It was the first Kings of Leon tour in support of their 'Youth and Young Manhood' album. The whole place was packed, absolutely packed - you could not move, let alone travel around to go to the bathroom or get a beer.

I also remember when I bought Fine Line tickets to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club years ago and then the show was canceled because the band was dropped from Virgin Records. When they were dropped they lost their tour support and couldn't afford to go on the road. For a super fan like me that was pretty diaspointing.

(Peter Hayes, my love!)

I wish the Fine Line was a little bigger, or at least they sold less tickets to their shows; because when a show is sold out, you can't move inside the building!

The Kooks Are Officially Sold Out

If you were looking forward to seeing The Kooks this Saturday, May 31st you may want to find other plans.
Sadly, the show is COMPLETELY sold out. I went to the box office to see about Fine Line Tickets for this show and the kind of laughed at me I asked if they still had tickets available.

Matthew Ryan Show Announced!!

One of my favorite saddest/angriest/awesome singer songwriters, Matthew Ryan, is coming back to Minneapolis for a show at the Fine Line. The last time Matthew Ryan was in town he was opening for Gary Jules who was on tour in support of his "Mad World" fame from Donnie Darko.
Because Matthew Ryan was a supporting act he only played for half an hour, so I'm really excited that he will be playing a full headliner set.

Fine Line Music Cafe tickets for this show will sell fast, Matthew Ryan has been in town in awhile!
Tickets are on sale now!

Matthew Ryan - Sunday, June 22nd, Doors at 7pm, Music starts at 8pm 18+

Ours at the Fine Line!

New show announcement!!
Jimmy Gnecco's brainchild, Ours, will be at the Fine Line for a show on Thursday, June 12th.
Ours had radio and critical success with the "Distorted Lullabies" release in 2000. Going on a 6 year hiatus after the release of Lullabies. Now it seems as though he is making up for lost time with releasing and album in 2007 and 2008. "Mi" and this year's Mercy (Dancing for the Death of an Imaginary Enemy) are Gnecco's last two releases.
Both releases are critically acclaimed though they have not had too much commercial success. Fine Line tickets for this show are on sale for the June 12th Ours show.
Gnecco and his band are known for their intense live shows (echoing Jeff Buckely's) so the tickets are sure to sell out!

President's of the USA at the Fine Line!

Let nostalgia take it's course in May when The President's of the United States of America take the stage at the Fine Line Tuesday, May 6th. I am sure that Fine Line tickets for this show will still be available up until show time, as the interest for the band has goen down a bit since their mega hits "Lump" and "Peaches" hit the airwaves in '95. If I heard "Peaches" on the radio today, I would not doubt sing along, not missing a word.

Regardless, The Presidents of the United States of America are not just on a reunion tour, but are touring in support of their new album, Pure Frosting.

Fine Line tickets for this event are on sale now!

Bravery Show at the Fine Line

Even though Fine Line tickets for this show didn't completely sell out, which was kind of nice. For once you could actually move around!
However, I still had to stand in the back. I got there in time to see one of the opening bands who looked like a couple frat boys from Australia (I was VERY jealous of their tan!)
Other than that, they weren't too much to write home about.
The Bravery played all their hits from their new and old album like "Believe," "This is not the End," "Time Won't Let Me Go," and "An Honest Mistake." The Bravery managed to play all the songs I wanted to hear, but didn't really wow me with the way they performed them. I had seen them before at Roy Wilkins opening for the Smashing Pumpkins. I attributed that show being a little under par simply because Roy Wilkins is built like a high school gymnasium.
I can't complain too much because I got my $15 worth, but I don't know if I would go out of my way to see them again.
The show really got me in concert mode, though. Only a week and half until I get to see Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in Madison!!! Now that is a band I would definitely go back to the Fine Line to see!!!

The Bravery Just Annonced at the Fine Line!!!

Dance pop band, The Bravery, will be at the Fine Line next month!

The Bravery have toured extensively since the release of their album The Sun and the Moon last summer. Not only have they headlined their own tour, but they also opened for the Smashing Pumpkins on their tour last fall.

This time around they are touring in support of the re-release of The Sun and the Moon: The Complete. It will feature unreleased tracks, which in the weeks prior to the release (which is March 18th) each track will be made available on iTunes on a weekly basis.

Fine Line tickets for this event are sure to sell out seeing as the Bravery has sold out all of their previous shows in Minneapolis! They have played at The Varsity, Roy Wilkins Auditorium and now the Fine Line!

While I Google image searched a picture of the Bravery to put here, I found something that made me love the band even more; a picture with one of my favorite guys in the whole world, Mr. Dave Grohl:

The Bravery: Sunday, April 20th, 2008 @ The Fine Line Music Cafe 18+

Har Mar at the Fine Line Music Cafe!!!

In less than one weeks a local music star will be back in Minneapolis! Minnesota's own Har Mar Superstar will be in town opening for national act, Sia.

You may not recognize the name, Sia, but she is the voice behind Thievery Corporation, which you may know and love from the Garden State soundtrack.

Fine Line Music Cafe tickets for this show will certainly sell out because of Har Mar's hometown fans (myself included). I bought my Har Mar Superstar ticket weeks ago so I wouldn't be standing out in the cold!

Last Night at the Fine Line Music Cafe

Last night at the Fine Line, The Editors, Hot Hot Heat, and Louis XIV played a sold out show to an audience that couldn't wait for all three bands to take the stage. There were so many people in the Fine Line that you could barely move to get a drink, go to the bathroom, or retrieve your coat from coat check, which was necessary on a very cold Minnesota night!
I enjoyed all the bands, but Hot Hot Heat was my favorite. The Editors just sound like Interpol too much - not that it's a bad thing, but I just can't shake it from their sound.
Hot Hot Heat, however, delivered a great, loud, and very danceable show. They played a lot of their older stuff, mainly the songs that made me a fan.
As we were walking out of the Fine Line Music Cafe into the below zero weather, I was handed a flier for a Louis XIV show at the Varsity Theater in March.

Like Fine Line Music Cafe tickets, Varsity Theater tickets sell fast!

Louis XIV will be at the Varsity Theater Sunday, March 23rd, 2008 - 7pm door, 8 pm show 18+

Next up at the Fine Line on my calendar is Sia, but more importantly it is the opening act, Har Mar Superstar that I am going to see!

Fine Line Music Cafe

The Fine Line Music Cafe is located at 318 First Avenue in Minneapolis aka the Warehouse District. There are a lot of great events at the Fine Line so this Minneapolis Music girl thought I should start a blog. Check back often for Fine Line Concert updates and reviews.
