Not One, But Two Pete Yorns!

As if one show wasn't enough - Pete Yorn will be playing not one but two shows at the Fine Line. Pete Yorn is touring in support of his new album "Back and Forth" which was released on the 23rd.
I had no idea that Pete Yorn was so popular. Apparently he has a huge live show following that necessitates two back to back shows at the Fine Line. This is surprising to me because he has not had a single that has recieved any air play since his "Music for the Morning After" album - which I will admit, I totally owned a copy of. I had a huge crush on Pete Yorn when that album came out ... I couldn't resist.

To further prove his fan base here is an interesting piece of information: during the iTunes pre-sale, BACK AND FOURTH sold 11,672 digital copies, driving the album to Top 10 status (reached No. 4 on iTunes Album Chart) before it had even been officially released.

I stand corrected. Perhaps Pete Yorn will sell out both shows at the Fine Line. Maybe there are that many people that still listen to him! In that case it would be in your best interest to decide on the show you want to go to buy your Fine Line tickets accordingly. Apparently Pete Yorn tickets are a hot commodity.

Catch Pete Yorn at the Fine Line Wednesday, August 12th and Thursday, August 13th.

Basilica Block Party Battle of the Bands!

The Basilica Block Party is July 10th and 11th this year. There are actually a few pretty good acts this year for Basilica, they must have fired the person doing the booking the past few years. Because the past few years the Basilica Block Party has had some real clunkers as far as headliners, but this year they have the Black Crowes, The Jayhawks, Counting Crows, The Hold Steady and Tapes n Tapes.

But before the party even begins there is a contest at the Fine Line Music Cafe that has been going on and will continue for the next few weeks for a spot on one of the stages at the Block Party.

So, Thursday, June 18th there will a round of Battle of the Bands at the Basilica Block Party. Fine Line tickets are not needed for this event, however, there is only a 4 dollar cover at the door. There are three bands competing at this round: Dim Light Shining, Stealing Seconds, & Postina.

If you're looking for something cheap to do on a Thursday night it looks like this is your best bet!

Cheap Cover for a Saturday Night

There are not a lot of great concerts coming to the Fine Line on their upcoming events calendar, but the Fine Line concert calendar is packed with a lot of local shows. If you're looking for something fun to do this coming Saturday that does not involve Grand Ole Days in St. Paul, you can check out the tribute show at the Fine Line. No Fine Line tickets are needed for this show, there is only a $6 cover. For a cover downtown on a Saturday night that is really not that bad!

The cover show on Saturday showcases music from Radiohead, Pink Floyd, and Rush. An interesting line up, I know.
The line ups are as follows:

What's That? A Radiohead Project (check them out here!)

Exit Stage Right (Rush)

The Mad Buggers (Pink Floyd)

The Fine Line calendar is packed with local bands and events so if you are looking to see local talent or looking to find a cheap cover at a bar.

I will be at Treasure Island all weekend, so if you go to the show let me know how it was!

Australian Comedian Coming to the Fine Line

Jim Jeffries, the Australian born comedian will be in Minneapolis for a stand up show on (are you ready for the most futuristic date possible?) Saturday, October 10th! Fine Line tickets for this show go on sale this weekend, but I really don't see the rush for the on sale - the event is months away!

Jim Jeffries is known for his work with BBC Television, starring in such shows as Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Have I Got News For You, Heaven and Earth and 8 out of 10 Cats. Jim Jeffries is currently filming his sitcom The Jim Jeffries Show and has recorded an HBO 1 Hour Comedy Special at the Skirball Center at NYU which will be released later this spring.

Fine Line Music Cafe tickets
will be available this weekend for the show - he sounds like a funny guy - don't miss out!

See 'Rapper's Delight' Live! One night only!!

There hasn't been a lot of fun shows at the Fine Line lady, sorry blog, I do what I can! I did see a show coming that did catch my eye for pure nostalgia reasons, which is the Sugar Hill Gang. I had no idea that they were even still a band, let alone touring! But regardless I am sure it would be fun to see such a staple in the world of rap music.
Everyone knows the Sugar Hill Gang - if you don't remember "Rapper's Delight" from them you for sure remember the part in the Wedding Singer where Ellen Albertine Dow gets on stage in sings "A hip hop a hibby to the hibby, etc." You cannot forget that memorable movie moment of an elderly lady rapping.

Anyways, if you would like to buy Fine Line tickets for this show they are on sale now!

The Fine Line and I are taking a break. End of story.

It has finally happened. I was on a roll there for awhile, having a good relationship with the Fine Line, but it happened. I am now officially on a break with the Fine Line. Our relationship hit a rock last night and unless I really really really love the band I am going to keep my distance. It is really for the best, it saves a world of frustration.
So last night I went to see Peter Bjorn and John at the Fine Line (life was too busy for me to make it there in time for Chairlift - which was too bad because I love the song from the iPod commercial). Fine Line tickets for this show must have sold out because once again you could not move in the Fine Line. I think that the reason the Fine Line differs from First Ave so much is simply the way it is layed out. The Fine Line is a much narrower space making it impossible to see if you're stuck way in the back like Sara and I were last night. Ugh! It just wasn't any fun! Who enjoys standing in the back behind a pole that is blocking your way all the while people are shoving their way past you and hitting your arm every 5 seconds and spilling your beer! Not me. I left before the encore and I didn't even get to hear "young folks."
Frustrating!

Don't get me wrong, I love supporting the Fine Line and the acts that play there by going there as much as I can. But I go to soo many concerts that I have to have some standards!

Next Up: The Sounds at the Varsity!

BJM Show at the Fine Line!

It has taken me a few days to recover from the Brian Jonestown Massacre show last week to say the least. The night ended in a cab ride I don't remember and one hell of a show! The original members (Anton, Matt, and Joel) were all touring this time around. I never thought that I would get to see Joel play the ol' tambourine! But I did! And I got to hear all of the great Matt Hollywood jams and all the Anton jams. I truly cannot tell you how wonderful of a show it was. I wish I could see it again this Thursday! Fine Line tickets for this event were not sold out, however, the Fine Line was packed. You could not even move on the balcony at all.

I have some great pictures, I'll post them when I am back at my computer!

Next up: Peter Bjorn and John on the 21st of April!!!!

Here are some pictures from the very hazy night!

I can't wait to see them again!!
